The Columbia-Willamette Chapter of Women of Vision was founded in 1998. We are women from all around the Portland, Vancouver, and Lake Oswego metropolitan areas who come from many different
backgrounds, age groups, and churches, but who all share a passion for serving the poor, especially women and children. Women of Vision is a volunteer ministry of World
Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
World Vision helps transform the lives of the world's poorest children and families in nearly 100
countries, including the United States. Their non-profit work extends assistance to all people, regardless of their religious beliefs, gender, race, or ethnic background. There are now 13 Women of
Vision chapters that support dozens of international World Vision projects and local projects that address the needs of children and women.
Columbia-Willamette Women of Vision is committed to serving the poor in three ways:
- We seek to educate ourselves and others about poverty by inviting speakers to address poverty issues and offering the Women of Vision Cross-Cultural Study, "The Heart of the Matter:
Touching the Lives of Women in Poverty."
- We support six international World Vision projects in four countries: the Children of the Tunnels and Nonformal Education projects in Mongolia; the Trauma Recovery Center and
Street Children Transformation projects in Cambodia; microenterprise development in Honduras; and HIV/AIDS prevention work in Mozambique. We support them with our
prayers, financial gifts, advocacy, and our presence. Our fiscal year 2008-2009 commitment totals $245,000.
- We volunteer in our own community to help impoverished children and families. This fiscal year
we have pledged to raise and donate to help the poor locally. We are currently supporting the work of the Children's Relief Nursery.
We invite you to join us in this ministry.
