Women of Vision in Cambodia, 2006 |
The Columbia-Willamette Chapter of Women of Vision was founded in 1998. We are women from all around the Portland, Vancouver, and Lake Oswego
metropolitan areas who come from many different backgrounds, age groups, and churches, but who all share a passion for serving the poor, especially women and children.
Women of Vision is a volunteer ministry of World Vision, a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to helping children and their communities worldwide reach their full potential by tackling the
causes of poverty. World Vision serves the world's poor regardless of a person's religion, race, ethnicity, or gender. World Vision focuses on serving children because they are the most vulnerable to
hardship. There are now 16 Women of Vision chapters that support dozens of international World Vision projects and local projects that address the needs of children and women. Columbia-Willamette Women of Vision is committed to serving the poor in three ways:
1. We seek to educate ourselves and others about poverty by inviting speakers to address poverty issues and offering the Women of Vision Cross-Cultural Study, "The Heart of the Matter: Touching the
Lives of Women in Poverty."
2. We support four international World Vision projects: the Children of the Tunnels and Nonformal
Education projects in Mongolia; two Community Partners programs in Kangombe, Zambia, and Ngopi, Malawi; and the Trauma Recovery Center in Cambodia for children rescued from the sex
trade. We support them with our prayers, financial gifts, advocacy, and our presence. Our fiscal year 2006-2007 commitment is $100,000 to Mongolia projects, $10,000 each to Zambia and Malawi,
and $60,000 to the Cambodia Trauma Recovery Center. 3. We volunteer in our own community to help impoverished children and families. This fiscal year
we have pledged to raise and donate $10,000 to help the poor locally. We are currently supporting the work of the Children's Relief Nursery.
We invite you to join us in this ministry. |
